Beach Trash
Shocker: Since beginning to WEIGH garbage collected at monthly
cleanups since September 2006, FJB Monthly Cleanup Volunteers have removed
more than 15,000 pounds of garbage from Jupiter Beach. Why are
people using Jupiter Beach as a dump?
Thanks to the efforts of RAPID REMOVAL, a Palm Beach Gardens firm,
recyclables are now separated and removed immediately after cleanups, a
further benefit to our environment.
www.rapidremoval.net.
Groups/school community service: We ask that GROUP
LEADERS kindly call ahead 561-748-8140, plan to arrive by 7:50 AM

Summertime at the beach can be VERY STRESSFUL on dogs...please ONLY
VISIT in the early mornings or very late afternoon... the SAND IS TOO
HOT for their precious paws (if YOU wouldn't walk barefoot on hot
pavement or scorching sand, your dog shouldn't either). Take fresh
water with you and replenish at the water stations provided at the beach
crossovers. As always, follow dog-beach etiquette and rules so
that we may PRESERVE this precious privilege.
BEWARE OF OIL/TAR PATCHES ON THE BEACH: Oil/tar patches come
and go with the tides, and pose a messy problem for humans and their
furry companions. These patches are an occasional fact of life for
beach goers, and the first suggestion is, if at all possible, avoid the
mess. When you discover the mess after your dog has it all over
his paws and fur, make sure you have a towel with you to protect your
car seat. DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING TURPENTINE OR GASOLINE to
remove the tar from the dog's paws or fur. These products are very
irritating to your pet's skin, and can cause severe reactions. A
mild dish soap, such as Dawn, is all you will need to remove oil.
Tar residue will require a bit more work. We suggest first trying
vegetable oil and a rag to soften the tar. If this does not work,
a small amount of a product such as Goo Gone and a rag may help - always
read manufacturer's instructions first. Immediately follow with a
soapy bath. These solutions will also work for humans who find the
tar on the bottom of their feet. |
The History of the Friends of Jupiter Beach

Our
beloved founders:
Anita and "Bonnie" Lankler
"She Made A Difference" |
A group of local residents dedicated to preserving
the privilege of being accompanied by our dogs on the beach of Jupiter,
Florida.
-
...organized
in summer 1994 due to complaints threatening dog privileges on the
beach.
-
Jupiter Town
Council gave FJB a six month trial period to make a difference.
-
FJB raised
seed money for 10 "doggie bag" dispenser boxes and bags along A1A.
-
Locations:
Town Crossovers south of Carlin Park to Marcinski Road.
-
Original metal
boxes have been replaced with attractive wooden boxes.
-
Public
acceptance phenomenal: bag usage and number of boxes doubled over
the past two years, now AVERAGING 200,000 bags Annually.
-
FJB pledged to
organize MONTHLY volunteer beach cleanups, held faithfully for 12
years, cancelled only due to horrible weather and hurricanes
On-going activity, at NO COST TO TOWN,
supported only by tax-deductible contributions and sponsorships for this 501(c)3
not-for-profit Florida corporation (further details in the
donations link).
Now 29 boxes located along the 2 1/2 mile
stretch of beautiful "dog-friendly" Jupiter beach - between crossovers
2-24 where socialized, obedient dogs and their conscientious owners are always
welcome.
